Techniques for the rapid location of insects and other foreign bodies in food and cereals Professor Roy Davies, DSc Food inspection is an important aspect of machine vision, which has shown significant advances over the past few years. This talk describes research which is aimed at determining the minimum amount of computation required to work in real time, on limited hardware. A target is to get a computer to analyse each of 1500 images in less than 0.1 second. Remarkable speedup factors have been achieved but interesting problems remain. For further information, contact: Professor Davies is author of two books, "Machine Vision: Theory, Algorithms, Practicalities" and "Electronics, Noise and Signal Recovery". He is a member of the executive committee of the British Machine Vision Association, and he is a former Treasurer of The Cybernetics Society. |
